Week 2: First Day in The Classroom

    What an eventful first day! I got to meet the 1st grade students I will be working with for the semester as well as my teacher mentor! I was hoping I would get first grade and I got exactly what I wishing for! The students in this class were very welcoming and so sweet! I was able to learn how the classroom works, along with the rules and schedule. I was able to jump in right away, which was awesome. One student in particular needs extra help so I was by his side majority of the time guiding and supporting him throughout the day. I asked my teacher mentor many questions so I could get comfortable in her class. 

    My goal by next week is to learn all the students names as well as the Monee pledge. At the end of the pledge of allegiance students go on to saying the Monee pledge to the school. I would like to learn this and be able to participate in it with the students and teacher in the morning. Another goal of mine by the end of the year would be to know how to address certain situations with the students. For example, on Thursday a student raised their hand to let me know that another student punched them. I was unsure of how to adress this on my own so I left it up to my teacher mentor. I believe my strength is taking initiation but I just need to learn more on how to handle situations.
