Week 2: First Day in the Classroom
Date: Sunday, September 12th, 2021
By: Monica Schrank
I was
so excited to meet the 2nd grade students that I would be observing for
the next few months. My MT helped me feel so included that the students knew my
name on the first day and made me “welcome to the classroom” cards which made
me feel so excited and welcomed into the classroom. My MT helped me feel like a
part of the classroom by having me help the students with their assignments
while she taught them the material (which allowed me to help the students that
need more assistance to not fall behind). Throughout the day, the students in
the class kept coming up to me for help which made me feel like a part of their
class. When the students were all leaving for the bus, they all kept saying goodbye
and that they will see me next week.
My
goal for the first day was to start learning the student’s names. I know about
half of the student’s names so far, and I plan to know all of their names by
the end of the day next week. By knowing the student’s names, the students can
feel special that I remembered their name and that I am observant and have good
memorization skills. Another goal that I have for the upcoming weeks would be to
ask the teacher if I could read a book to the kids. By reading a book to the
kids, I can get better accustomed to teaching them. Also, the students can get
more acclimated to me and how I teach. I truly enjoyed observing my MT’s
classroom last week. I can not wait until this week when I get to come back to
the classroom and help teach, help, and observe students in my MT classroom!
