It's been a long week with a lot of work. This week, the students require a great deal of assistance; the more difficult the new concepts get, the longer it takes for them to grasp them. Throughout the day, I assisted my MT in administering math and ELA tests to the student. Because of the poor levels of performance we've had, this took a long time. Although the kids had a difficult day and were exhausted by the time they got home, it was also a gratifying one. The students were able to choose their reward from the prize cart using the Dojo points they had accumulated during the month. It was a fun opportunity for kids to put their math skills to use, and there were some wonderful goodies in the cart.
My MT also let me to take over the last 15 minutes of the day to complete my Interest Inventory for my final project. I felt secure taking lead and doing the inventory with the children after getting to know them better and learning their names. Filling it out and writing their eloquent responses was a lot of fun for the kids. I think it's safe to say I've gotten used to the class, and I can now help my MT more without her asking. I gained a solid understanding of classroom procedures and how things operate at the school. My aim for next week is to complete my lesson plan well so that my students can benefit from it.
