Today went by rather quickly. I got to the school pretty early and was able to spend some time with my CT before class started. We talked a bit about my upcoming lesson plan and also about what the scholars were doing for the past week. It was nice to have that short time with her to go over just those couple things, the school day goes by so fast that we don't often get a chance to have too much conversation during the day.
I had my usual five minute meet and greet outside of the classroom with the scholars, most of them gave me a hug and I did a high five for everyone else as I went down the line. These kids are really well behaved and even though sometimes they don't listen they can usually get themselves together without much conversation.
My CT was observed by the principal during her math lesson and I got an opportunity to see how graceful she is under pressure. It seemed that everything that could go wrong, was going wrong in that 40 minute time frame. Two of the scholars were feeling sick, one with a tummy ache and the other was feeling like he had a fever. There were about 6 students that were pulled out of the room for various reasons and there was one scholar that came in late in the middle of the lesson 😖. As I said before, my CT handled it with grace. She quickly tended to the two sick scholars, I tended to the young man that came in late and the students that had to leave the room left quickly and quietly. At the end, I was surprised to hear that even she had some nerves, which I couldn't tell while she was teaching. I guess I don't have to feel so bad when I get nervous about being observed.
Throughout the day we worked on context clues, base ten, place values, proper nouns and point of view. One thing that I noticed today is that as much as some of the scholars struggle with math, they seem to be much more comfortable when it comes to certain parts of literacy. When my CT was going over point of view, all the students seem to eagerly want to participate. It was nice to see that a lot of the student were on the same playing field for that lesson. There was a lot of content that was covered and the scholars were still able to have gym time and recess. I can't wait to see them next week and share my science lesson, it's Halloween week so, I'll be providing treats for the scholars without the tricks.
