Thursday was a pretty ordinary day! My teacher had me step up and do hallway duty before school started which was fun! I was able to chat with the class in the hallway before school begin which I enjoyed. Each week I get to know the students better and better which I believe is important, because they are more comfortable and open with me then. Its important to build those relationships and connections with your students! I also, was able to do my typical stuff that my teacher mentor always has me do. Which is do the morning circle time, read them a book, and do the phonemic awareness yellow book. I really like how she allows me to do the yellow book because that is an area I definitely need practice in. I feel this is preparing me for student teaching because Dr. Kelly said all schools are now doing the yellow phonemic awareness book.
I got some great advice from my teacher mentor while the students were in gym and she told me while I am teaching I really need to "crack the whip". She said she notices the students taking advantage of me and I need to be more strict with them. I totally agree with her because, I have felt the students see me more as a friend in the class than a teacher. So with that being said, she gave me tips for classroom management and how to get the students to respect me a little better. Im glad she gave me this advice because I'm going to ensure I use it when I teach my lesson this upcoming week! All in all it was a good day and I got some beneficial advice / information on classroom management! Cant wait for next week!!
