Today I taught my science lesson about why leaves change color in fall. I was pretty excited about this lesson because I thought it was fun and the students would enjoy it. I would say this was the least nervous I've been since starting to teach. I think I was well prepared and made sure to really understand the content. I was able to break down the scientific method behind why leaves change color for second graders to understand it. My students had fun with it and really enjoyed this lesson. I made sure to really question my students throughout the lesson so they could really understand the content. I would say this was my best lesson yet! I didn't think I liked science but when you find an interesting topic and become creative in how to teach it to young children, it becomes fun!
I'm really enjoying my students. Second grade is so much fun! The students are independent and so sweet. I keep thinking how we only have a few weeks left with them. It's going to be sad to leave them since this is my first actual in person class. In field experiences 1 and 2, they were remote and it was just very different. With being in person, it's easier to make real connections with the students. I always thought I'd want kindergarten but now I'm thinking 1st or 2nd grade. Teaching this age is really fun because they get so excited and are so encouraging. When I was getting ready for my lesson, a little girl in the class said, "Mrs. Cabrales, you're going to do great!" Another boy said, "can you stay in your classroom? Your lessons are always so fun!" They're just too kind.
I had a great week this week! Now I'll be brainstorming about my next lesson and what I'll teach the class next time!
